RI CPCU Scholarship Awards $80,000 in Scholarships to 15 Outstanding Students

The Rhode Island CPCU Society Scholarship Fund proudly awarded $80,000 in scholarships to 15 exceptional students during its annual Scholarship Fund Banquet held on May 19, 2026, at the Waterman Grille in Providence.

The evening brought together industry professionals, families, and supporters to celebrate a remarkable group of students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and a deep commitment to their communities.

What made this year’s group especially memorable was just how different—and impressive—each student’s journey has been. Among the recipients are student pilots already logging solo flight hours, varsity athletes leading their teams as captains, musicians performing on stage, and student leaders serving as class presidents and mentors. Some are pursuing careers in healthcare, engineering, law, and education, while others are exploring business, finance, and public service. From marathon runners raising awareness for important causes, to first-generation college students excelling in rigorous academic programs, each recipient brought a unique story, perspective, and sense of purpose that made this year’s class truly special.

RI CPCU Scholarship Board of Directors“The energy in the room was incredible,” said Crismel Calderon, Vice President of the RI CPCU Scholarship Fund Board of Directors, who led the evening’s speaking program. “Each of these students has a unique story—and what stood out most was not just their accomplishments, but their character, their resilience, and the impact they are already making in their communities. We’re honored to support them as they take their next steps.”

This year’s scholarship recipients represent a wide range of passions and pursuits—from aviation and healthcare to education, engineering, business, and public service—and many are already demonstrating leadership through athletics, the arts, volunteerism, and mentorship.

The program reflects the Scholarship Fund’s ongoing commitment to investing in the next generation—many of whom are connected to Rhode Island’s insurance community through their families—and supporting students as they pursue higher education and meaningful careers.

The RI CPCU Society also recognized the contributions of its Board Members and Scholarship Judges, Mark Male, Michele Cloutier, and Rajani Mahadevan whose time and thoughtful review make the program possible each year.

Participating Insurance Organizations

This year’s scholarship recipients are connected to families across a wide range of organizations within Rhode Island’s insurance and risk management community, including AIPSO, Amica Mutual Insurance Company, Amwins, Beacon Mutual Insurance Company, FM Global, MAPFRE Insurance, and Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage.

These connections reflect the core eligibility of the program—supporting students who are part of Rhode Island’s insurance community, whether through their own work or through a family member.

We’re proud to support the families behind our industry—and excited to help develop the next generation of leaders who may one day help shape its future.
